Copper tripeptide-1, glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine:Cu(II)
A naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide whose plasma concentration falls sharply with age; the best-characterised peptide in dermal remodelling literature.
What the literature describes
GHK is present in human plasma, saliva and urine, declining from roughly 200 ng/mL at age 20 to about 80 ng/mL by age 60. Complexed with copper(II) it has been studied for four decades. Reported effects include stimulation of collagen synthesis by fibroblasts with activity beginning between 10⁻¹² and 10⁻¹¹ M, modulation of both matrix metalloproteinases and their tissue inhibitors, stimulation of decorin and glycosaminoglycans, and restoration of replicative capacity in irradiated fibroblasts. Gene-expression analyses have reported GHK resetting large numbers of genes toward a healthier state.
