ACTH(4-10) analogue, Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro
A heptapeptide analogue of the ACTH(4-10) fragment with the melanocortin activity removed — studied for neurotrophic and neuroprotective effects.
What the literature describes
Semax is ACTH(4-10) with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro extension that confers stability while stripping the hormonal activity of the parent fragment. A single application in rats has been reported to raise hippocampal BDNF protein about 1.4-fold with a roughly 3-fold increase in exon-III BDNF mRNA and a 1.6-fold increase in trkB tyrosine phosphorylation. Other published work reports prevention of enhanced nitric oxide generation in cerebral cortex under incomplete global ischaemia, and antidepressant-like effects in chronic unpredictable stress models.
