What the literature describes

Human growth hormone is a 191-amino-acid single-chain polypeptide secreted by somatotroph cells of the anterior pituitary in a pulsatile pattern. It acts directly through the GH receptor and indirectly through hepatic IGF-1 production. The research literature spans somatotroph physiology, GH-receptor signalling via JAK2/STAT5, effects on lipolysis and nitrogen retention, and the interaction of the GH/IGF-1 axis with ageing.
